How to Become a Christian

You do not become a Christian by anything you do. You do not become a Christian by being a member of a church. You do not become a Christian by being sincere. You do not become a Christian by anything you say.

What must you do? You must believe in Jesus alone; you must trust Him alone; you must accept Jesus’ sacrifice for your sins alone and nothing that you do in any way.

Though there are no rules or steps to becoming a Christian, the following is a biblical summarization of what you need to know and do:

1.

You must recognize
your sinfulness before God

"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:"
— Rom. 5:12

"For all have sinned , and come short of the glory of God;"
— Rom. 3:23

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
— Rom. 6:23

2.

You must recognize that your sin has caused a separation between you and God

" But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. "
— Isaiah 59:2

3.

You must believe that Jesus is the only way to God

" Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. "
— John 14:6

4.

You must ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins because Jesus has the authority to forgive you of your sins

"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth."
— Matt. 28:18

Jesus told you to ask Him for your requests: "If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it." — John 14:14

Jesus is the one who forgives sins: "But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house."
— Mark 2:10-11

This last "step" is called receiving Jesus: " But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: "
— John 1:12

5.

You must turn away from your sin

" And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:"
— Acts 17:30

" Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: "
— Matt. 3:8

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved shalt. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
— Rom. 10: 9-10

If you would like to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord.

You must pray to Him and ask Him to forgive you of your sins and come into your heart. He will. He loves you. Salvation is only a prayer of faith away.
